Car Speakers: Upgrading Your Car Audio Electronics

Whatever speakers you integrate into your system, these will account very much for how your system will sound. To answer every need, whim and fancy ever concocted, a wide range of speakers are now on retail out there. No doubt, a single speaker is capable of belting out the full range of sounds that the song was meant to crank out, but it is not recommendable. Bigger-than-usual speakers will lead to dilemmas, reproducing high frequencies which require rapid movement of the speaker. Too small, and it will have a hard time replicating low frequencies which need plenty of air to be ejected. Since a lone speaker cannot replicate all sounds as precisely as possible, multiple speakers are then employed, each of which reproduces sound in the frequency range it was meant to produce.

A speaker called a tweeter takes care of the high frequencies roughly above 2 kHz. Tweeters handle the job with the help of their small and lightweight frame. So efficient is their power management, only a low amount of power is required to keep these tweeters up and running. Woofers are the opposites of tweeters in many ways. One major difference is that they lap up large amounts of power to control air. Woofers are built specially for producing sound at frequencies below 250 Hz and often just below 100 Hz (in the case of subwoofers). It is already all in a day’s work to see woofers with diameters as large as 18′ being sold. In contrast, tweeters bigger than an inch in size cannot respond snappily enough to sound good and are too directional. In between are midrange speakers which handle the frequencies between the woofers and tweeters. Further division can be done but is usually unnecessary and just complicates the crossover which segregates the full audio signal into the various and different parts for each of the car audio speakers.

Speaker materials

A speaker’s material make-up will gauge how long will it last and what quality will it be able to produce.

Woofer materials

To successfully emit the low notes in your music, the woofer of a full-range or component speaker should be composed of stuff which is stiff, yet lightweight. A lot of car speaker woofer cones are produced from synthetic films such as polypropylene, which do a good job. Polypropylene, when joined with other materials, like mica for example, result to stiffer parts that produce more precise bass response. Still more examples of lightweight and element-resistent materials are woven fabrics, or synthetics coated with metals like aluminum or titanium.

Tweeter materials

Note that tweeters, for all their tinny size and sounds, play a big role when it comes to producing sound. Now, a tweeter’s composition definitely has an effect on the over-all sound it produces. The gist is that tweeters that originate from poly, textile blends, or silk which are soft materials, will provide refined and somewhat mellow. Highs that are bright and snappy, go with hard materials, like metal, ceramics, or graphite.

Surround materials

How about the surround aspect? These complements to the woofer are decisive in the entire experience the woofer cone is able to belt out bolder bass. What is needed is materials that can last under the pressure of temperature and humidity extremes. Rubbery surrounds will ensure high-quality performance in general and long life spans. If you need other low-cost options, foam and cloth surrounds cost less yet still perform well.

There are a lot of methods and plans to choose from when it comes to tweaking your vehicle’s audio system, but getting brand-name car speakers is one surefire and effective step. Moreover, a below-the-usual investment in new speakers will heighten the audio experience of the entire range of sound that you are focused on. So ensure that speakers are already included in your definitive audio upgrading plans. Whether your car audio electronics project is large or small, better speakers will make a difference you can hear.
